Employee Spotlight: Gig Walsh

LinkSquares appreciates all those who have served in the military. This Veterans Day, we’ve got an extra-special employee spotlight featuring our Senior Director of Security and Compliance, Gig Walsh, who served in the Marine Corps for 6 years.

Read on to learn about Gig’s experience in his own words.

  • What do you do at LinkSquares?

I recently joined LinkSquares as the Director of Security and Compliance.  I am responsible for cybersecurity throughout the company, including the corporate infrastructure and the product environment.

  • What does a typical day consist of for you?

Having recently joined LinkSquares, I am mostly in listening and learning mode. My days vary, with some devoted to compliance and policy and others to more technical issues. The most productive sessions lately have been meeting with and learning from our Engineering and Customer Success teams so that I can align short and long-term goals with the objectives of the company.

  • What branch of the military were you in? How does that inform your work here (if at all?)

I was in the Marine Corps from 1989 to 1995.  What I appreciate most about my time in the military is what I learned about leaders taking care of their people, having a genuine interest in their wellbeing, and providing them with opportunities to grow. Marines take care of each other, and I owe many of the breaks in my career to other more senior Marines in the corporate workforce taking a chance on me.

  • What’s different about our Security Team?

It’s often a cliche that “security is everyone’s responsibility.” But at LinkSquares,  IT, Legal, Engineering, and every other department have had security in mind since day one, and it shows.  Cybersecurity is an important part of all decisions and has leadership support.  And the IT team, especially, has made me feel welcome.

  • Why did you choose LinkSquares over other options?

I was excited to join a group of people that are enthusiastic about the company and its potential.  The culture here is genuine, and I feel I can make a difference because of the support of all of the different teammates.

  • What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy trail running and hiking with my family and dogs.  My 13-year-old daughter plays volleyball and basketball, so I am often at her games. I started training in jiu-jitsu about two and a half years ago, and I absolutely love it.  It forces me to stay in shape and has introduced me to a great group of friends.

Thank you to Gig and all Veterans for your incredible service. We are proud to have you on the LinkSquad.
