What are Smart Values? Smart Values are crucial terms in your contracts, sourced and extracted by LinkSquares AI. To unpack what this milestone means for legal teams, we sat down with Kiren Latka, Director of Legal Engineering. Kiren and her team bring a legal perspective to the Data Science experts as they build and train new Smart Values.
Why is reaching 100 so momentous?
What excites me about 100 Smart Values is that we are giving customers what they need: insights at their fingertips to get more data and get to decisions faster. We have more values in a wider breadth of categories than anyone in the market, solidifying our place as a market leader and setting the standard for the industry.
We will continue to empower greater insights and enhance the value of contracts. Going forward, we will also focus on terms that are specialized for particular industries and explore other contract data where legal teams need more visibility.
Could you share with us why you think Smart Values are so crucial to contracting processes?
Time is money. Smart Values are a timesaver: audit quickly, never miss a renewal date, and eliminate repetitive work. With Smart Values you can run a report that used to take hours in just a few minutes. That’s just not possible with a group of people and a spreadsheet. For example, next year, Standard Contractual Clauses will have to be updated. With Smart Values, you can simply run a dynamic search to identify all the old clauses across your contracts with a few clicks.
What’s unique about Smart Values?
One unique thing we do is make full-service Custom Smart Values, and we always create a full algorithm, never a basic search. We stay ahead of the industry, listening to our customers and the contract process. For example, we knew that General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) would be a big issue, so we proactively made a Smart Value to identify those clauses across all your contracts.
Just for fun, what’s your favorite Smart Value?
It’s very hard to pick a favorite, they’re almost my children. The amount of work involved in each value is phenomenal. If you make me pick one, I would choose ‘Effective Date’. It’s deceptively hard to extract, but we’ve been able to get it to an incredible level of accuracy. Please don’t tell the other Values I picked a favorite.
